Artist in Residence

Michael G. O’Brien is best known for his intense and direct nature-based photographs inspired by documentary work he’s done with local Indigenous groups. These experiences taught him the importance of a deeply-rooted personal connection to Mother Earth.  A selection of these images comprises Earth Water Sky series.

 

O’Brien is Canadian born and Toronto based. He’s self-taught, citing diverse influences such as John Blakemore, Sebastião Salgado, and Kazuaki Koseki.  

 

A vital part of his practice is connecting and sharing his experience with others. After teaching for 15 years at the college and university level, his current teaching provides guidance through private photography instruction, mentoring, and photo workshops.
